Tauranga:
The low drone hum of bumblebees bouncing from flower to flower is one of the quintessential sounds of a NZ summer. But bumblebees are under threat. If they go, we will lose a huge majority of crop and flower species that depend on them. Without bumblebees and their pollinator friends, food crops and the countryside as we know it will simply cease to exist. Discover all about these iconic super pollinators and their mostly unknown importance to us. Geoff Brunsden from the NZ Bumblebee Conservation Trust will take you on a fascinating journey of understanding the bumblebee and how we must help them.
Geoff has a background in forest science.
At the AGM in February you will be asked to vote on matters that will enable us to comply with and reregister under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022.
Anne will background the requirements, answer your queries and ask you to consider the information we will make available to you through the Newsletter and the Website.

New Members Meeting Coordinated by U3A Tauranga Coordinators - Gail Moore
On August 30th. 2024 U3A Tauranga held the second New Members meeting for 2024 at the Wesley Church Tauranga. It was truly a privilege to be welcoming so many enthusiastic new members. The month of August has been nothing short of rubbish health wise for so many, who were not able to attend. This included two coordinators, our Immediate Past president and one of our morning-tea support persons. Raewyn, Margaret D, Jan and Anne B. we missed you and trust that you are now recovered and have been able to enjoy the sunny days we are being blessed with more than the wet windy days. Margaret Marsh, supported by Bev Edlin, presented an excellent slide show out-lining the origins of U3A in France through to today in Tauranga and Katikati. This was followed by an opportunity for each new member to introduce themselves and to offer a little bit about their working lives and how they learnt about U3A Tauranga. I can only say that we have many wonderful new members who have very stimulating backgrounds both career-wise as well as many who have contributed to a variety of voluntary organisations.
The refreshment time was a giant talkathon with everyone constantly engaging with people they had not met before. We wish all a very positive experience as a member of U3A Tauranga
