We had our final meeting of the year on 14 Dec, and my last as convenor after 7 years! Raewyn and Murray McAlonan were our very hospitable hosts.
I arranged a "hands-on" problem solving activity. Supplied only with 20 balloons and a roll of masking tape, the challenge for each small group was to build a self-supporting tower as high as possible. There was a bit of grumbling about inflating the balloons (!) but folk were soon engrossed in the task and all 3 groups completed their towers within 30 minutes. Amazingly, 2 of the towers were very much the same height, just under 2 metres tall. One group achieved extra credit for the aesthetic effect created. And it was a lot of fun! Photos attached.
We followed on with a science quiz, and, with a bit of head scratching, all groups achieved about 80% correct scores!
Then it was time for a delicious shared lunch and conviviality before parting until next year.
Kind regards
Kate Mulligan
