U3A Mini hikers trip to Waiorongomai 22 Feb 2017
The weather was good for the Mini hikers 2nd hike of the year to Waiorongomai.
We took the Low Level Loop track which winds up the valley through bush and crossed 3 streams along the way all of which had a little more water in for the time of year as a result of the heavy falls we had a few days ago.
The track was very well made and we had a fairly gentle climb. There were numerous information panels explaining the history of the area and a lot of remains from the prospecting ventures of the early 1900’s. Coming back down we followed the railway track to the viewing point at the lower incline where we had lunch and finally made our way down the track back to the car park.
We finished with coffee at the Domain Cottage cafe Te Aroha – a very relaxing spot after a lovely hike. Thank you once again Thelma.
