Val and Betty shared their local area with us. Papamoa Plaza was the beginning of a figure of eight walk.
A little damp was in the air when the group started but cleared as the walk progressed North through the reserve where the community had kept the area tidy. A right turn at Evans Road took us to the beach and back to the Surf Club area. Returning inland we joined up with the reserves, heading South past some waterways maintenance where two bitterns were foraging through the disturbed earth.
Next we followed the tsunami route to the higher ground prepared to hold up to a thousand people. From there we returned to the beach, heading towards Mount Maunganui in the distance. Coffe at the Papamoa Plaza and we all went on our way, some by the city bus service.
