We had a most interesting meeting today with several members contributing to the morning. Some of the subjects covered are listed.
Highclere Castle where Downton Abbey has been filmed
Salt Lake City which has the largest genealogical library in the world
Shakleton’s hut in Antarcitca.
Stockholm in Sweden and the Vasa Museum where the ship is on display. It was built between 1626-28 and sank after sailing only a short distance on her maiden voyage due to being top-heavy.
RossLyn Chapel in Scotland with beautiful carvings inside.
Photographs of some famous paintings such as Constable’s were shown where if you look very closely you can see an enormous amount of detail.
The Marlow suspension bridge across the River Thames in England built between 1829-32 and still used today.
We saw a bike park in Amerstdam to accommodate some of the 880,000 bikes in use there.
Lastly the Centenary celebrations of World War 1 where a sea of ceramic poppies was placed around the Tower of London was shown in an aerial shot.
