New Plymouth Pukekura Park is the venue for a Festival of Lights over the last days of December and into January each year.

One of the major sponsors is TSB Bank, who also sponsor mobility scooters, which you need to book at the Tea House on the Lake. This assists people who would have difficulty walking to enjoy the lights. See the web site http://festivaloflights.nz

The highlight this year were 'Jellyfish' light sculptures. The Fountain Lake had multi-colour balls giving an unending sequence of light patterns to compliment the fountain colours.

In clear weather a visit to the North Egmont visitors cetntre is another 'must do'. The detailed display about Mount Taranaki is excellent and there is an easily accessed viewing platform for a good view of the mountain.

Another must do activity is a bike ride along the coastal walkway, one U3A member has a photo of Mount Taranaki framed by the Te Rewa Rewa Bridge. Bikes can be hired from Wind Wanderers at East End  Reserve, Nobs Line. Again, mobility scooters are sponsored by TSB Bank for use on the Coastal Walkway, see http://www.newplymouthnz.com/OurDistrict/Attractions/CoastalWalkway.htm
