“A good composer does not imitate; he steals.” ― Igor Stravinsky
Here is a really interesting slant on Classical Music being used in advertising and movies. We also look at using other composer's classical music in modern music writers compositions and the copyright law.

Hi all,
Due to last week's walk being cancelled due to weather, we will try again for this walk next Monday, the 29th May and will be at Waihi Beach walking the estuary track heading towards Bowentown. This is a there and back track but we may come back via the beach if the tides are OK. The walk should take around an hour unless we get carried away like we did last time when it stretched a bit in time.
Start will be on Emerton Rd which is the main road between State Highway 2 and Waihi Beach on the southern side. X marks the meeting spot on the attached map which is between the NZMCA park and Seaford Park village
Time - 930am as usual
Toilets - none
Footwear - this is a gravel track but there could be slushy parts so boots are recommended but not essential. Walking poles are not required.
Carpooling - I can take 4 passengers from either Omokoroa or Katikati. Please contact me if you want a ride.
Can you please let me know if you are coming on the walk
Remember, cancellation emails due to bad weather will be sent out on the day no later than 730am.

Hi all,
Following is hopefully our next Mini Hike which is the last one that was cancelled
Autumn is well and truly here now so on our next walk we should see autumn colours in the trees at McLaren Lake. This Is an easy walk and for those of us that cannot walk the full distance there is an opportunity to do part of the walk. (yes, I have long Covid and not as fit as I should be and get tired very easily so amy not be walking the whole distance)

Distance. From memory the complete walk is just over 1 1/2 hours. We will be walking along the lakefront as far as we can and including the waterfall walk.
Footwear. Walking shoes or boots, your choice. The terrain is all gravel. Walking poles if you want them.
Cafe for lunch afterwards will be where we park.
Toilets - yes, plenty on the walk
Car Pooling - Sorry I cannot carpool this time as I will be going elsewhere after the walk.
Ed is away so there is no carpooling with him.

When I saw the invitation which had been designed for King Charles III coronation I was very interested in the symbolism it contained and the hark back to history. I thought it may be of interest to you. I do hope you enjoy viewing this presentation.Regards, Margaret MarshClick here for the presentation - PDF reader required

Dear Members,
The next Katikati U3A General Monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday 10th May, at the Community Hub (the Centre - Patuki Manawa) next to the Library, from 10am-12noon.
The main speaker will be John Clements, the current chair of the Katikati/Waihi Beach Community Board. John has had a lifetime experience as a manager and management consultant in many parts of the world.
Here is our chance to understand where the community board fits in to local democracy, relationships with the Western Bay Council, and what plans lie ahead for our community board and our district.
Before morning tea at 10:30am, Francis Young will talk about the artefacts found by archaeological excavations at the Kauri Point pa, and what they can tell us about early Maori occupation of the area.
All are welcome to these monthly meetings and there is a $2 door charge to defray costs. Thank you to members who have renewed their U3A subscription, which was due by 31 March.
You will find the March/April Tauranga U3A Newsletter at www.u3atauranga.kiwi.nz
Kind regards
Pam Mazoyer.

First, a huge thank you to Teri and Duncan France the presentation of their favourite music yesterday.
They clearly put a lot of work into the presentation, and it was a very enjoyable afternoon with a wide variety of music genres.
Attached is a copy of their notes which includes the U-tube links for your ‘re-enjoyment’

Hi all,
Our next Mini Hike will be to the Blue Springs just outside Putaruru.
https://www.freewalks.nz/putaruru/blue-springs-waihou-river-walk/track/
Directions - See the attached map. Note we are doing the Te Waihou Walkway. The start will be at the carpark on SH28.
Time - Start time at the venue will be 10am.
Distance - This is a long walk for us and approx 10km there and back which is going to take around 2 to 3 hours.
If anyone only wants to walk one way, that can be arranged as I will be walking one way only due to me recovering from Covid. Yes my isolation will be finished, I am symptom free but I get tired easily. I want my car left at the halfway point carpark on Leslie Rd so will be looking for someone to bring me back to the start, preferably another one way walker as we may start after the rest of the pack.
Lunch - due to the length of the walk, I suggest we all bring our own lunch. I will have a couple of folding chairs, BYO if you have any.
Toilets - yes, start and halfway.
Footwear - walking shoes or boots. Walking poles if you have one.
Car Pooling - I will have room for 4 people leaving from Omokoroa, via Bethlehem if necessary, Poripori Rd to the walk. Contact me if you want a ride on 021 159 5613 or email me. I will be leaving Omokoroa around 815am - traffic???
