Hikers 1 Group, 18th November 2015
Fifteen members travelled to the Waikato to walk another section of the Waikato River Trail.
We started at the end of Waotu South Road, Putaruru. The first 2 km zigzagged down the hillside with a large quarry visible for a lot of the descent. There were great views over to Maungatautri and Lake Arapuni.
We continued along beside the lake and some farmland and through regenerating bush on an undulating track passing a waterfall. A higher waterfall was visible on the other side of the lake cascading down to the lake.
We arrived at the spectacular Mangarewa Suspension Bridge, it is 80 metres long and 42metres above the Mangarewa Stream.
We crossed the bridge and enjoyed our lunch on the other side.
We returned by the same track with the last 2 km a steady climb back to the cars.
Coffee and milkshakes were enjoyed at the Wooden Farmer Café in Putaruru on our way home from another great outing
